Tutorial: Day to Night Smokey Eye Makeup

*This is my official entry to the Avon You Make It Beautiful Blogger Challenge.

Would you believe if I say that I did these looks using just one set of makeup? :)

If you are new to makeup and would want to know what makeup would be great as starters, here are my recommendations:
  • a neutral eyeshadow quad -- Neutrals, specifically browns, look boring but are the safest shades to own. It compliment any skin tone and eye color and can be used on day and night. A little amount of shimmer is needed but make sure you have a versatile matte brown one that you can use as a brow filler and contour powder.
  • a  foundation -- It doesn't matter what type as long as you have what rocks your boat. For starters, it would be best to own a dual powder foundation. It can be used dry for subtle coverage and retouching, and wet/damp for heavier coverage and concealing.
  •  a blush -- You, actually, don't need a lot of blushes in your stash. One is enough but make sure it looks perfect on you.
  • a black eyeliner -- It gives any look a kick. If you are creative, you can also use it to change the shape of your eyes.
  • a mascara -- A fool-proof one, if I must add. It helps in making the eyes look awake and adds glam to any eye makeup. When your lazy to do your full mug, just apply a good amount of mascara and be glamorous in an instant.
  •  a lip gloss -- Who doesn't need a gloss on the lips? :)
  • lipsticks -- Actually, one color will do.It wouldn't hurt to have 2-3 tubes in your stash for variation. Get one red, one pink and one 'loud' color, like orange.

If you already have your starter kit and would want to know how to fully utilize it, here's a tutorial on how to create a day to night makeup look using one set of makeup. I'll be working with all the makeup listed and showed above.

*This is my official entry to the finals of Avon You Make It Beautiful Blogger Challenge. All makeup used in the tutorial are from Avon Philippines.

DAY MAKEUP -- Subtle Smokey Eye

Going out for work or a day time activity? Here's a step-by-step tutorial on how to look extra beautiful all through out the day.

1. Start with a prepped face. Make sure you moisturize and apply a good amount of sunblock. Conceal  dark undereye circles and imperfections, if there's any.

2. Set everything well with a powder foundation. Make sure to focus more on the areas that need coverage. -- Avon Ideal Luminous Invisible Coverage Dual Powder Foundation in Natural Beige

3. Redefine eyebrows.

4. Even out the color of the lids with a powder foundation. -- The powder foundation will also help keep the eyeshadow from creasing by keeping the oil at bay.

5. Apply a light, shimmery brown shade all over the lids. -- Avon True Color Eyeshadow Quad in Chocolate Sensation (2)

6. Define the crease and the outer V of the eyes with a medium brown shade. -- Avon True Color Eyeshadow Quad in Chocolate Sensation (3)

7. Blend the two colors together, pulling the color slightly above the crease.

At this point, the eye makeup should look something like this:

8. Line the outer half of the lower lash line with the same medium brown eyeshadow. -- Avon True Color Eyeshadow Quad in Chocolate Sensation (3)

10. Highlight the brow bones, tearducts and the inner half of the lower lash line with a shimmery pearl eyeshadow. -- Avon True Color Eyeshadow Quad in Chocolate Sensation (1)

11. Line the inner rims of the eyes with the same shimmery pearl eyeshadow. This trick will make the eyes looks bigger and more awake. -- Avon True Color Eyeshadow Quad in Chocolate Sensation (1)

12. Use a wet technique on a matte, dark brown eyeshadow to line the eyes. This gives shape to eyes without looking too harsh for a day makeup. -- Avon True Color Eyeshadow Quad in Chocolate Sensation (4)

13. Curl lashes and apply a generous amount of mascara. -- Avon Super Shock Max Mascara in Black

14. Swipe a pink blush on to the apples of the cheeks for that natural-looking flush. -- Avon Ideal Luminous Blush in Rose Luster

15. Apply a lip color of your choice. Run your fingers on top of your lips to blend the lipstick and make it look less bold and opaque. -- Avon Ultra Color Lipstick in Tangering Tango

16. If you want to tone down the colors of the lipstick a bit, apply a mauve lip gloss on top of it. It will not just add glam to the look but it will also help change the color of the lipstick. -- Avon Ultra Glazewear Lip Gloss in Mauve Movement

Fix your hair and put on the needed accessories, then strut your way onto your day's activities!

NIGHT MAKEUP -- Fierce Smokey Eye

Come night time, you have a party to attend to or a date to go to but don't have time to go back to your house to fix yourself? Worry not! You can transform your day look to a night look in just a few steps and with just the same set of makeup!

1. Redefine the brows. Make it darker and heavily defined as usual. -- Avon Glimmersticks Brow Definer in Soft Black

Tip: To make the brows look 3-dimensional, line the lower and outer part of the brows with a soft black liner.

2. Haphazardly line the eyes with the same soft black eyeliner you used on the brows. Don't worry about how messy it looks because you'll blend it away with the rest of the eyeshadow later on. -- Avon Glimmersticks Brow Definer in Soft Black

3. Intensify the outer V of the eyes with the same soft black eyeliner. Blend away with your fingers. The eyeliner will help makeup the eyeshadow appear darker and will define the eyes further. -- Avon Glimmersticks Brow Definer in Soft Black

4. Apply a shimmery medium brown eyeshadow (the same one you used on your day makeup) all over the lids. -- Avon True Color Eyeshadow Quad in Chocolate Sensation (3)

5. For a gradient effect, apply a shimmery light brown eyeshadow on the inner eyes. -- Avon True Color Eyeshadow Quad in Chocolate Sensation (2)

6. Pat on a matte dark brown shade on the outer V of the eyes. Blend all the harsh lines. -- Avon True Color Eyeshadow Quad in Chocolate Sensation (2)

7. Pull the color up above the crease with a mix of the shimmery medium brown eyeshadow and the matte dark brown eyeshadow. -- Avon True Color Eyeshadow Quad in Chocolate Sensation (3 and 4)

8. With a clean blending brush, blend the colors together. The goal is to have a seamless transition of colors.

At the point, the eyes should look somehow like this:

9. Line the lower lash line with a soft black eyeliner. This will act as a base for the eyeshadow you'll use later. -- Avon Glimmersticks Brow Definer in Soft Black

10. Lightly dust a shimmery medium brown eyeshadow on top of the eyeliner. This makes the look more even. -- Avon True Color Eyeshadow Quad in Chocolate Sensation (3)

11. Line the inner rims of the eyes with a black eyeliner. -- Avon Glimmersticks Brow Definer in Soft Black

12. Line the eyes with a mascara. A mascara? Yes, a mascara. Put a blob of mascara on a clean paper and use it to line your eyes. It works as good as a gel eyeliner. :) -- Avon Super Sshock Max Mascara in Black

13. Curl the lashes and apply generous coats of mascara on your top and bottom lashes. -- Avon Super Shock Max Mascara in Black

14. Clean up any fall outs with a powder foundation. Reapply highlight.

15. Contour the nose bridge with the same matte dark brown eyeshadow you used before. If you think the color is too harsh for contouring, blend it away with your powder foundation. -- Avon True Color Eyeshadow Quad in Chocolate Sensation (4) and Avon Ideal Luminous Invisible Coverage Dual Powder Foundation in Natural Beige

16. Contour the hollows of your cheeks with the same technique. -- Avon True Color Eyeshadow Quad in Chocolate Sensation (4) and Avon Ideal Luminous Invisible Coverage Dual Powder Foundation in Natural Beige

17. Apply  your blush and a lip color of your choice, and you're done. -- Avon Ideal Luminous Blush in Rose Luster

Here's the fun part. You can further amp up the look just by changing your lip color.

Do you want to look fierce but not too much? Use your fingers to apply color on to your lips. This technique will just give your lips a 'stained' kind of color. -- Avon Ultra Color Lipstick in Tangerine Tango

Do you prefer a bold lip color? Swipe a pink lipstick of your choice. Just make sure it wouldn't clash with your fierce eye makeup. -- Avon Ultra Color Lipstick in Knockout Pink

Want to take your fierceness to the next level? I have a thing with dark and bold lip colors so forgive me if I am favor of this look more than the 2 above. haha! Get fierce lip color just by lining the lips with a soft black eyeliner. Blend the color with a finger and apply a pink lipstick on top. Dark and fierce lips in an instant! -- Avon Glimmersticks Brow Definer in Soft Black and Avon Ultra Color Lipstick in Knockout Pink

So who said you need a lot of makeup to create different looks? Just equip yourself with right products and some dash of creativity, tons of beautiful looks are within your reach!
