Review: ELF Mineral Infused Face Primer

In the middle of all events, concerts, and shows, the least I want to do is to retouch my makeup. How many times did I say in this blog that I am not the kind who is often seen holding a mirror checking up on what has and has not happened on my face? I did maybe a million times plus one. Also, I have expressed my interests in whatever product that promises to stay put all day/night long and/or helps other makeup stay on my face long enough until I decided to wash it off. I haven't met the one that's why I keep on searching. My recent find is the ELF Mineral Infused Face Primer.

Making the foundation stay on my face longer  than usual is not a problem for me. My face is too dry that a foundation tends to cake rather than slide off. I am aware that most primers claim not just to make makeup last longer but to also help creating a smooth canvas prior to makeup application and lessens the possible chances of caking. With that being laid, the primer is sold. Who wouldn't love it, by the way?

This face primer was sent by my ever dearest Papa (read HERE). I asked for it, honestly, because I heard and read good reviews of it. Here I am, confirming/denying the claims.

A pea-size amount is enough for my whole face. I love that it is clear and does not leave a film of color on my skin. Somehow oily when applied but I swear by its claim that it makes the skin feel smooth after which makes foundation application so easy.

ELF Mineral Infused Face Primer:
Transform your face into a flawless and smooth canvas with the Mineral Infused Face Primer.
Developed to combat excess oil, flaky dryness, enlarged pores and fine lines to result in a natural and youthful looking radiance.
This clear multipurpose skin primer will prepare your skin so makeup goes on evenly for a lasting satin finish.
Application: Apply to clean skin prior to makeup application. Use a small amount and blend evenly over the face for a smooth and flawless base.

What I LIKE about it:

  • Affordable -- I got this for free courtesy of my Papa ($6) but I know it's sold here in the Philippines for about Php400.00 each.
  • Elegant packaging
  • Applies on smoothly
  • Makes my face smooth for makeup application -- Especially around the eye area.
  • Helps my makeup stay in place the whole day -- YES!
  • A little amount goes a long way -- A pea-size amount is enough for my entire face.
  • Lessens the cakey appearance or dryness of makeup on my face
  • No pungent smell
  • Does not break me out
  • Available locally in some ELF counters

What I DON'T LIKE about it:
  • Feels oily/greasy upon application
  • Only has 14g of product

Will I repurchase?
YES! But I hope Papa will send me a back-up! :)

Notes:
  1. I apply the primer about 5 minutes before I put on foundation to let it sit on my face and give it enough time to dry.
  2. The pea-size amount is enough to cover the most important part of my face, the T-zone, where caking and sliding off usually happens.
  3. I prefer to use my clean hands when applying the product onto my face.

I have tested this baby when I attended the Philippine Fashion Week Day 2. I tell you, I did not retouch my foundation nor powder my face. Even the makeup (concealer) on the driest part of my face, the undereye area, did not cake. I am loving this primer! :)

  1. I need help. I don't know what sort of skin type I have. I think I have oily skin because when I use oil control film, I can fill about half of it. But I can only do this after about 12 hours of work. In which case, I think I have just wasted the oil control film because it isn't soaked in oil. This then makes me think I'm dry. I do sweat a lot! I'm not sure if this is the reason why I see my foundation look like... what I think is clumpy or cakey. (You know how when you put powder on a wet face, and it sort of 'clays' up?) Thanks for the review on the Elf primer. I'm on my way to get one now.
